My Economic Vision for Halton Hills

I believe Halton Hills is sitting on one of the greatest economic opportunities in Ontario.

Communities that thrive over the next several decades won't simply compete for more development. They'll compete to become leaders in innovation.

I believe Halton Hills has the opportunity to do exactly that.

For generations, we've measured land by asking one question:
"What can we build here?"

I believe we should also ask:
"What opportunities already exist here?"

Halton Hills possesses something remarkably rare.

We have productive farmland, headwaters, forests, wetlands, unique microclimates, conservation lands, historic villages, and immediate access to the Greater Toronto Area, leading universities, colleges, skilled workers, and major transportation corridors.

Rather than seeing these as competing interests, I see them as the foundation for an entirely new economic strategy. Every successful community develops an identity.

Oshawa became known for automotive manufacturing.
Waterloo became synonymous with technology and innovation.
Guelph built an international reputation in agriculture and agri-food research.

Imagine attracting companies that want to design, test, manufacture, and commercialize the technologies that will shape the future of agriculture and environmental management.

Imagine helping local farmers diversify into high-value specialty crops while creating local opportunities for processing, manufacturing, research, and product development.

Instead of exporting raw materials, we could be exporting innovation.

That creates skilled jobs.

It attracts investment.

It supports local businesses.

It gives graduates from nearby colleges and universities a reason to build their careers here instead of somewhere else.

Most importantly, it creates an economy that grows because of what makes Halton Hills unique — not despite it.

My goal is to help bring together farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, manufacturers, investors, educational institutions, and government partners to build an innovation ecosystem that benefits the entire community.

This is why so many of my proposals fit together.

My Layered Protection Plan, environmental stewardship, environmental asset valuation, farmland preservation, agricultural innovation, agritourism, and economic development are not separate ideas.

They are pieces of a single long-term economic vision.

Each proposal strengthens the next.

Together, they create the conditions for investment, innovation, job creation, and responsible growth while preserving the character that makes Halton Hills such a remarkable place to live.

This vision won't happen overnight.

But every successful community begins by deciding what it wants to become.
